Gold!

The students read the Gold Rush story in our reading book to learn more about pioneers.  They also read about the Gold Rush in the Social studies book while studying the West.  After reading in both subjects, Phil Morreim showed the students how to pan for Gold!  Look at the nugget that was found!  At the end, the students all had a chance to use a metal detector to help them find treasures in the grass.

Good Sam

The 4th Grade students have had another wonderful time with the residents at the Good Samaritan Center and the Hidden Creek Home.  They have played board games, presented reader's theater, sang songs, read books to the residents and many more activities.  What a great way to learn compassion and understanding for different age groups and needs.  You should be very proud of your students and their interaction with all the residents!  I know that I am!

This school year we’ve been corresponding with a couple different military groups.  For Veteran’s Day we sent thank you cards to a Delta Company stationed in Kuwait, for Christmas we sent cards and snowflakes to Tyler Crabtree (Jay’s son) and friends at their Air Force Base, and for Valentine’s Day our 4th graders chose to send their cards & candy to the Delta Company in Kuwait instead of exchanging with each other.

This morning, Sgt. Ken Laite from Delta Company, who is home on leave, came to Sibley to surprise our classes!  He shared his experiences with the students, we looked at Google Earth to see his base, and he answered questions that students had.  He also presented our classes with a certificate of authenticity and an American flag that was flown at Camp Buehring in honor of our 4th graders.  It was so awesome!  The kids were very excited to finally meet Sgt. Laite we were all so thrilled that he took the time out of his 15 day leave to visit us!
